Week 8

I really got behind, so here's a quick recap of the games played on November 23.

In the early game, the Cattle Barons beat the Omegas by the score of 5-3. Andrew Noorloos scored his first goal in our league and added two assists. He earned the Player of the Game honours by leading the Cattle Barons to victory. Jason Hotke of the Cattle Barons also scored his first goal in our league in this game.

The middle game saw the short-handed Ice Dogs trounce the Stars 8-2. Bill Tamminga played a great game in net for the Ice Dogs and is the Player of the Game. Adrian Roelands scored a hat-trick for the Ice Dogs in his first game of the season. Duncan Vanderwal also had a good game. He had a four point night.

The late game between the Flyers & Hawks was a real close one with the Flyers coming out on top with a 4-3 victory. Kev Karelsen & Tyler Veenendaal each had three points for the Flyers, but we'll give the nod for Player of the Game to Mark Groendyk who scored a goal and an assist.

Ejections & Suspensions

Posted Tue Nov 20, 2012 - 02:01 PM

Chris Simard & Brandon Wilpstra of the Stars were each ejected from the early game against the Flyers because each of them received three minor penalties. This is the first time that this has occurred for each of these players this season, so they are both okay to play in the next game this Friday.

Eric Bakker of the Cattle Barons was ejected from the late game against the Ice Dogs for receiving three minor penalties. This is the second time that this has occurred for Eric this season, so he is still okay to play in the next game this Friday.

Brett DeBoer of the Ice Dogs reached the 30 minute plateau in penalties and will be suspended from playing this coming Friday (November 23).

It was not mentioned in last week's updates, but Lance Ross of the Omegas received three minor penalties in the game on November 9 against the Flyers. This was the first time that this has occurred for Lance this season, so he was okay to play in the game this past Friday (November 16).

Week 7

Posted Tue Nov 20, 2012 - 01:40 PM

In the early game, the Flyers beat the Stars 6-3. The Stars got off to a good start by scoring their first "first period" goal of the season and were making a game of it until they got themselves into some penalty trouble. Undisciplined penalties proved costly for the Stars with the Flyers going five for seven (71.4%) on the power play. Brandon Wilpstra had a three point night in the Stars' loss. The co-winners of the Player of the Game will go to Ryan Cross & Kev Karelsen of the Flyers. Ryan got four points, while Kev had five points.

The middle game saw the Hawks pull out a "squeaker" with a 7-6 win over the Omegas. It looked like the Hawks were going to run away with it earlier on. They held a 3-1 lead after the first period and a 6-2 lead early in the third period. In an eight minute span in the third, the Omegas put on their rally caps and scored four straight goals to tie it up at 6-6. It was all-for-not because with 30 seconds to go in the third period, Calvin Pelleboer scored the game winner to give the Hawks the victory. Pat Dam of the Hawks & Chad VanReenen of the Omegas are the co-winners of the Player of the Game, with each of these defensemen scoring a hat-trick.

The late game between the Cattle Barons & the Ice Dogs was another close one. The Ice Dogs came out on top with a 3-1 win. The Ice Dogs got off to an early 2-0 lead, but the Cattle Barons kept battling and eventually were able to put one past Josh Tamminga late in the third period. They pushed to tie it up, but Joe DeBoer sealed the victory for the Ice Dogs with an empty-netter. Both goaltenders, Josh Tamminga & Steve Pastoor are the co-winners of the Player of the Game.

Week 6

This week's early game saw a match-up of the two teams tied in the top of the standings. The Hawks prevailed over the Ice Dogs with a 6-4 victory and now sit alone at the top of the standings.
The Ice Dogs got off to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Hawks had a big second period and found themselves holding a 5-2 going in to the third. The Ice Dogs brought the game within a goal by scoring two quick goals in the third, but Rob Nutma scored a beauty from the point to seal the win for the Hawks. Rob takes the Player of the Game honours by scoring two goals and adding an assist in the game.
Joe DeBoer also had a three point night in the Ice Dogs' loss.

Once again, the Stars found themselves at the losing end of another close game in this week's middle game. The Cattle Barons won the game 4-2 over the Stars. Newcomer, Chris Helps led the Cattle Barons in their win by scoring his first two goals in our league and had an assist on another. He earns the Player of the Game for his efforts. Brady DeBoer also scored his first goal in our league.

The late game between the Flyers & Omegas is currently under protest.
