Week 6

The Hawks earned their first "non-forfeit" win of the season by beating the Flyers 4-2 in the early game. At the end of the second period, Dave VanOostveen made the score 3-0 for the Hawks when he scored his second goal of the game. The Flyers started to make a comeback by scoring twice in the third period, but an empty netter by the Hawks ended the Flyers' hopes of completing the comeback.

In the middle game, the Stars beat the Cougars 6-2. The Stars got off to a fast start by leading 4-0 in the first eleven minutes of the game. Stars' back-up goaltender, Brent Campbell, earned the win in his first game in our league in nearly ten years. Dallas Fraser scored a hat-trick for the Stars and is one of this week's co-winners of the Player of the Week.

The late game saw a battle of the two top teams in the standings. The Omegas came out on top by beating the Crusaders 6-3. Freddie VanReenen & Ian VanReenen each scored two goals in the Omegas' win. Ian is this week's second co-winner of the Player of the Week by notching two assists along with his two goals. Herb Zylstra also deserves mention by helping with three assists.

Week 5

Posted Tue Nov 09, 2010 - 04:10 PM

Don't look now, but we're already 1/4 of the way done the regular season.

The Crusaders beat the Cougars in the early game by the score of 5-2. Adrian Roelands scored a hat-trick in the Crusaders' win and earns himself the Player of the Week honours.

The Omegas stayed tied with the Crusaders in the standings by beating the Flyers in the middle game. The Omegas looked like they were going to blow the doors off by scoring four goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. After the Omegas were up 6-1, the Flyers were able to muster up a bit of a comeback, but were only able to finish off with a 6-3 loss. Mark Zylstra scored twice and added an assist in the Omegas win.

In the late game, the Stars got off to a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period when Derek Deelstra scored his first goal in our league. They held the lead until the Hawks scored late in regulation to force overtime. Brandon Wilpstra scored a power-play goal in overtime and gave the Stars a 3-2 victory.

Now that we've gone through the first round of the regular season, the parody in our league is becoming more and more obvious. Here's a few stats to prove this:
Sure, the Crusaders, Omegas, and the Flyers all look pretty strong, but the Stars are only a point behind the Flyers. The Hawks are only a few points behind the Stars, and the Cougars are only one point back from the Hawks.
Only two of the first 15 games ended up with more than a three goal spread. The two games that were a bigger spread both happened on the first night out.

The next round could get real interesting.
