Merry Christmas!

Posted Tue Dec 23, 2014 - 07:59 PM

I want to take the opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!
The games were all very tame this weekend, And I want to thank all the players for keeping it this way. I hope that everyone enjoys this Christmas with loved ones and celebrates the birth of our Lord & Saviour.

As a reminder, there will be no games this Friday (December 26), due to the fact that it is Boxing Day. We will be back playing the following Friday, January 2nd.
In the mean time, take a second and look at how even all six teams are in the current points standings. All six teams are separated by four points with eight games to go in the regular season. Only one point separates 2nd to 6th.

See you all in the new year!

It was an even game all the way through. Both teams scored one goal in the first period.
In the second period, the Flyers scored three times and held a 4-2 lead going into the third. The Hawks scored half-way through the third to bring it to back within one goal. The Flyers ruined the comeback for the Hawks by scoring into the empty net.
Kyle Huizinga had three points for the Hawks. Kev Karelsen & Steve Capelle each had three points for the Flyers. We'll give the Player of the Game to Matt VanMarum. Matt had four points for the Flyers, including a natural hat-trick in the second period.

Ejection

Joe DeBoer, of the Ice Dogs received three minor penalties in his game on Friday. This was the first time that this has occurred for Joe this season, so he is okay to play in the next game.

Week 12

Posted Tue Dec 23, 2014 - 07:36 PM

The early game saw the Omegas beat the Ice Dogs 4-3.
The Omegas had control of the first half of the game. They found themselves up 3-0 in the first minute of the second period. The Ice Dogs scored a couple of quick goals in the second period to get back in the game, but were unable to complete the come-back.
Glen Angle, scored his first goal in our league, which turned out to be the game winning goal for the Omegas. He is the Player of the Game.

Christmas came early for the Hawks in the middle game. They found themselves shooting against a "siv" of a Stars goaltender (that's right - yours truly strapped on the goalie pads for the first time in twenty years) and beat the Stars 9-6.
The Stars got off to a quick 2-0 lead before the Hawks got their first goal. By the end of the first, the score was 3-2 for the Stars. The Hawks scored four unanswered goals in the second period and held a 6-3 lead going into the third. In the third period, the Stars showed signs of making a comeback, but the Hawks sealed the deal with an empty netter.
Chris Helps & Dave Vanoostveen will share the Player of the Game honours. Each of these players scored four goals for their respective teams.

The late game saw the Cattle Barons lose their third game in a row. The Flyers beat them 5-2.
The Flyers scored the only goal of the first period. By the end of the second period, the Flyers were up 4-1. The teams each scored one more goal in the third period, giving the Flyers a 5-2 victory.
Flyers spare goaltender, Kyle Scott, was excellent in his first game in our league. He will share the Player of the Game honours with Steve Capelle. Steve scored twice for the Flyers.
Kev Karelsen & Ryan Cross deserve honourable mention. They each had three points for the Flyers.

Busy Weekend

Posted Wed Dec 17, 2014 - 09:36 PM

Along with playing our regular three games this Friday (December 19) night, the Flyers & Hawks will be playing their "make-up" game on Saturday night.
As a reminder to everyone, the make-up game will be played on Saturday, December 20th at 8:00pm at the Point Edward Arena.

As you are all aware, this is also the weekend before Christmas, so I would really appreciate it if everyone could put in an extra effort to behave themselves for this weekends' games. I don't want to have to be spending my Christmas time sorting through all kinds of suspensions, drama, etc.
The past few seasons, I've made this request, and its been great. Everyone has really respected my request. In the past its been not so nice. I've had to spend far too much of my Christmas time worrying about solving issues, and not enough time spent with my family and enjoying this wonderful season of the celebration of the birth of our Saviour.
